Every day, we take a moment to honor the brilliance, boldness, and legacy of Black women who’ve shaped the world in visible and invisible ways. These are the women of impact — in music, media, ministry, marriage, and more — whose presence helped define their time and continue to inspire ours.
Today, July 6, is rich with names that deserve their flowers. From icons we grew up watching to voices that still echo through speakers and stages, we celebrate them with reverence and joy.
CIARA & RUSSELL WILSON – 9 YEARS OF LOVE
Happy Anniversary to Ciara & Russell Wilson. On this day in 2016, Grammy-winning artist Ciara married NFL quarterback Russell Wilson in a castle in England. What started as a fairytale ceremony has grown into a purpose-driven partnership grounded in faith, family, and mutual respect. Together, they raise a blended family of six and model what legacy-minded love looks like in real life.
“I’m a woman of ambition on a mission.” —Ciara
TIA & TAMERA MOWRY – Happy 47th Birthday
Born July 6, 1978, Tia and Tamera Mowry first rose to fame as teenagers on Sister, Sister, but they didn’t stop there. The twins have evolved into authors, producers, and entrepreneurs — each carving her own path while holding tight to sisterhood, motherhood, and self-awareness.
“We’re not just twins — we’re two whole people with shared love and purpose.”— Tamera
Remembering DELLA REESE
Della Reese’s voice was heaven-sent, her spirit unforgettable. From singing with Mahalia Jackson at 13 to leading Touched by an Angel, she spent decades uplifting others with both her sound and her soul. She also broke barriers as one of the first Black women to guest-host The Tonight Show — and she did it all with grace.
Quote: “If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best, eventually you will overcome.” Della Reese
Remembering PHYLLIS HYMAN
Born on this day in 1949, Phyllis Hyman brought elegance, honesty, and deep soul to every note. She didn’t perform for attention — she performed from a place of emotional transparency. Her music remains a masterclass in vulnerability and velvet.
Quote: “I sing to the pain in people’s lives, to the joy, to the truth.”
Remembering SUZZANNE DOUGLAS
On July 6, 2021, we lost Suzzanne Douglas — a classically trained actress who brought quiet power and emotional depth to every role. From The Parent ‘Hood to When They See Us, she embodied grace, dignity, and intellectual strength. Off-screen, she was an advocate for the arts and earned a Master of Music degree later in life.
“Art is a tool for healing and change — not just entertainment.” – Suzzanne Douglas
Remembering – SYREETA WRIGHT
On July 6, 2004, the world said goodbye to Syreeta Wright, a gifted Motown singer-songwriter known for her soothing voice and poetic spirit. Her collaborations with Stevie Wonder and her solo work helped define the sound of 1970s soul and the quiet storm genre.
“Music gives people a place to dream. That’s where I’ve always wanted to live.” – Syreeta Wright
CHARMAINE LEWIS – JULY 6, 1987
Happy Birthday to Charmaine Lewis. Born on July 6, 1987, Charmaine Lewis is the daughter of acclaimed actress Jenifer Lewis, known widely as “The Mother of Black Hollywood.” Charmaine represents the quiet strength of generational legacy and love.
“You have to look in the mirror and love what you see.” – Jenifer Lewis
Honoring the memory of SONYA MASSEY
On July 6, we pause to remember Sonya Massey, who was just 36 years old. Today, we honor her life, her memory.
