The mother of 14-year-old Emmett Till, her only son.

A devoted mother, educator, and activist who dedicated her life to speaking out for justice, and preserving her son’s story to inspire change.
“I wanted the world to see what they did to my baby.”
Mamie turned her grief into action, speaking across the country about justice, truth, and equality. She worked with civil rights organizations, educated generations as a teacher, and helped create the Emmett Till Players, a theater group using storytelling to keep history alive.

Her courage and commitment earned national recognition, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire and remind us of the power of a mother’s love and voice.

In 2022, Congress awarded Till-Mobley and Emmett Till a posthumous Congressional Gold Medal, to be put on display at the National Museum of African American History.
