Alice Walker is a prolific author and activist best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Color Purple,” which beautifully explores the struggles of African American women. Her literary contributions extend beyond this groundbreaking work, encompassing various novels, essays, and poetry that highlight social justice, feminism, and African American culture.
Did you know – It was on December 18, 1985, that The Color Purple was first released in theaters! 38 years ago! And Alice Walker published her novel The Color Purple in 1982. What a timeless story that continues to inspire!
The Color Purple was also produced as a (musical) The original Broadway production ran from 2005 to 2008, earning eleven Tony Award nominations in 2006. An enthusiastically acclaimed Broadway revival opened in late 2015 and ran through early 2017, winning two 2016 Tony Awards—including Best Revival of a Musical.
